With snow done, now comes the melting

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- There's little to no snow on the ground in southeast KELOLAND.  But it's a different story to the north.

Here's an estimation of how much snow is on the ground in KELOLAND.  Watertown stands out at 18 inches.

You can see it with our Watertown skycam.  It's pointed at a large snow pile in the parking lot at Lake Area Tech.  The official measurement for Watertown is 18 inches; we've seen this before in past Aprils.

In 2008, 19 inches of snow fell in Watertown, but April sunshine along with temperatures in the 40s allowed for a quick snow melt.

Here's what happened.  It went from 19 inches on the morning of the 26th to eight inches on the morning of the 27th and so on down to five inches by the morning of the 29th.  By the first of May, it was gone.

Of course, the rapid snow melt and added rain will create river flooding as many eyes will continue to watch their levels.
