Storm Center Update-Tuesday AM, March 19th

Weather

Good Morning!

We continue to watch the forecast as warmer weather will lead to more flooding in the coming days.  Here are few new flood forecasts on area rivers, starting with the Big Sioux at Brookings.  Notice the big jump this weekend.

Skunk creek feeds into the Big Sioux and drives most of the flooding along the natural river channel through the city.  You can see the daily melting and the rises observed.

Record flooding is projected in SW Minnesota at Marshall in the coming days.

Temperatures will warm on Thursday as warmer air moves in from the NORTH, not the south.  Canada in warmer than we are, so we’ll start melting.

Friday also looks mild, especially over snow-free areas.

In the short term, highs will be in the upper 30s and 40s today.

Tomorrow looks about the same with more sunshine.

Overnight lows will be key to the melting this weekend.  Highs will be well about freezing.  Expect quick rises on area rivers.
