The worst of the cold weather is arriving this morning in KELOLAND. Areas of blowing snow are already developing in the northeast and more blowing and drifing snow will be a problem today from Aberdeen to Worthington.
Wind chill advisories are in effect for much of western SD and our East River counties are included in wind chill warnings. That’s where the feels-like temperature will drop between -40 and -60.
Here are some sample wind chills the next 24 hours. We find some of the hourly numbers are down as low as -55 in Marshall and Watertown.
Top wind speeds will be 20-35 mph in many areas today.
Most of the high temperatures are being reached this morning. Rapid City could still climb to 15 today.
These numbers speak for themselves. Stay inside if you can and be ready for a very cold start to Wednesday morning.
Highs will struggle to -19 in Aberdeen tomorrow. Sioux Falls won’t be much warmer around -10.
The Sioux Falls 7-day shows a BIG warm-up by late Friday into Saturday. We expect highs well into the 40s by the start of the week. Winter will start returning early next week with a chance of snow by Monday.
