Storm Center Update – Thursday PM January 10

The overall forecast has a warming trend over the next few days. There is a hiccup in the warming trend though, on Saturday, due to a winter storm to hit our neighbors in Kansas and Missouri but we’ll warm right back up on Sunday and into next week.

Some light rain and flurries will be found in western SD, especially in and around the Black Hills, late tonight into early tomorrow. Lows will be in the teens to 20s in central and east KELOLAND while the west bottoms out in the 30s.

Friday will have afternoon highs in the 20s and 30s in the central and east. 40 degree highs will be in the west. Light snow flurries may fall in the east and northeast while the light rain and snow exits the southwest.

Saturday will be cooler as cold air is pulled into KELOLAND because of the passing winter storm to our south. Afternoon temps will be in the teens to 20s in central and east KELOLAND with 30s in the west.

Sunday resumes the warming trend as the winter storm exits the southern Midwest. Sunday afternoon temperatures in KELOLAND will recover to the 20s and 30s in the east, with 30s and 40s in central and west KELOLAND.

Monday will be even warmer as highs reach the upper 20s to lower 40s for those in the east with 40s to near 50 in the central and west regions.

Colder air begins to sink back into the Midwest the rest of the week so we’ll be cooler but projected highs are in the 20s to 30s for most of KELOLAND which is still within a few degrees of normal. The northeast is the exception with projected highs in the teens which is well below normal for mid-January.

The rain and snow potential going into next week is still pretty low. The northeast could see some very light snow or flurries on Tuesday. The rest of KELOLAND has some snow potential on Wednesday or later but once again, as of now, it’s looking pretty light.
