Flash Flooding In Willmar, MN

The city of Willmar, MN saw an incredible amount of rain overnight – more than eight inches. And that rain led to flash flooding in town.

A Super Eight motel was dealing with a couple of feet of standing water. The owner said it just came rushing in and there was nothing he could do.

Many homeowners spent the night dealing with a similar situation.

In one neighborhood, every house had at least two feet of water in the basement.

“Our sump pump ran all night, but couldn’t keep up. We tried bailing the water our for three hours; stayed up til 3 a.m before we gave up. But the water just came down all night,” Willmar resident David Molenaar said.

This isn’t  an area that floods often, the sewer system was just so overwhelmed with the heavy rain that it caused flash flooding, pushing water into people’s homes.
