BROOKINGS, S.D. – Nov. 13, 2015 – The South Dakota State University women’s basketball team used a 9-2 run to open the second half and record a 77-68 win over Marist College Friday night in front of 1,624 fans at Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits, now 1-0, had five players score in double figures in the nonconference game. Sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) had a team-high 19 points while junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) added 12 points and a career- and game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored 11 points in her collegiate debut. Sophomore forward Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) and senior guard Gabrielle Boever (Worthington, Minn.) each scored 10 points.

Marist, 0-1, got 21 points from Tori Jarosz while Sydney Coffey added 18 points.

Marist had the lead for all but 26 seconds of the first quarter, eventually building a 14-8 lead after a basket by Kendall Baab with 2:33 to play in the quarter.

South Dakota State scored the next six points to tie the game, 14-14, when Thompson made the second of two foul shots with 8:59 remaining in the second quarter. Boever gave the Jackrabbits a 22-21 lead with a 3-point field goal with 5:26 left in the half but the Red Foxes closed the half with a 14-7 run for a 35-31 lead. Coffey and Allie Clement each scored six points during that run.

Miller sank a 3-pointer 91 seconds into the second half to give State a 40-37 lead and the Jackrabbits never trailed. Miller scored 10 points and Young added 8 in the third quarter as SDSU built a 59-50 lead.

The Jackrabbits’ lead grew to 15, 69-54, with 6:41 left when Thompson made a foul shot.

South Dakota State hosts Arkansas at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Frost Arena.
