WACO, Texas (KELO) – The USD women are moving onto the second round of the NCAA Tournament following a 75-61 win over Ole Miss on Friday in Waco, Texas.

The Coyotes earned their first ever Division I NCAA Tournament win on Friday.

USD came out strong as they used an 8-0 run to build an early 11-2 lead.

Ole Miss would adjust out of the media timeout as a 5-0 run helped them close the gap and pull within 16-12 at the end of one.

The first six minutes of the second quarter was nothing short of domination by USD.

The Coyotes opened the quarter on a 16-4 run to open up one of their largest leads at 32-16.

The Rebels would adjust again out of the media timeout and start a 10-2 run. That closed the gap to 34-26.

USD would hold a 36-27 at halftime.

Ole Miss came out strong in the second half. They pulled the game within 39-33, but USD pulled away again as a 7-0 run made it 46-37.

The remainder of the third quarter saw the Coyotes continue to grow their lead. They outscored the Rebels 21-16 to open a 57-43 lead.

USD came out strong in the fourth quarter and they would ride that momentum to a win over Ole Miss.

The Coyotes will play on Sunday. Tip-off time and opponent is yet to be determined. They’ll play the winner of Baylor and Hawaii.

The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team plays in the NCAA tournament on Friday.

The 10-seed USD Coyotes will meet 7-seed Ole Miss at 12:30 p.m. CT.

This is the fourth consecutive season USD has played in the NCAA tournament.
