SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (SUMMIT LEAGUE) — Commissioner Tom Douple announced Thursday that the Summit League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will remain in Sioux Falls at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center through 2025 after an extension was signed with the venue.
The current deal between the Summit League and the venue runs through the 2022 Basketball Championships, which are slated to be competed March 5-8. This latest agreement keeps the tournaments there for three more years.
“Throughout the past 13 years, our men’s and women’s teams have provided the Sioux Falls community with a ton of memorable moments with their outstanding performances at our Basketball Championships,” Douple said. “Our tournaments bring regional and national media attention in addition to a substantial economic impact to the community, so, we are pleased to extend our agreement to keep the tournaments at the PREMIER Center for future years.”
The 2022 Summit League Basketball Championships will mark the eighth time the men’s and women’s tournaments will be held at the PREMIER Center and 14th-consecutive time the trophies have been handed out in Sioux Falls.
“The PREMIER Center and ASM Global are thrilled to be able to keep the Summit League Basketball Championships in Sioux Falls for the next several years,” General Manager Mike Krewson said.
The 14 combined men’s and women’s games return to the PREMIER Center following a one-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2021 Basketball Championships were held without fans at the Sanford Pentagon.
“The Summit League staff is excited for the opportunity to keep growing our Basketball Championships and continue to give our student-athletes a top-notch place to showcase their talents for the next three years,” Summit League Deputy Commissioner Myndee Kay Larsen said. “I know everyone associated with the event is excited to get back to the PREMIER Center and welcome our avid fans ‘Back to the Dance’ in 2022.”
