Sports

Pierre trailed for more than three quarters in Friday’s “11AA” championship game, but scored the final 17 points, including ten in the fourth quarter, en route to a 24-21 win over Harrisburg.  It’s the Governors’ first title since 2013.

The Tigers scored the game’s first 14 points, and led 21-14 at halftime.  On the heels of a scoreless third quarter, Pierre senior quarterback Peyton Zabel opened the fourth with a 24-yard TD pass to Mike Lusk.  He had two receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns, and was named the Joe Robbie MVP.

A possession later, Pierre grabbed its first lead on a 31-yard field goal by Casey Williams.

Harrisburg put together an impressive 11-play drive, including a conversion on 4th-and-21, late in the game, but the possession ended with a fumble.

Harrisburg’s Jack Anderson rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown in the loss, at the Tigers closed the year 7-5.

Pierre finished its season with a record of 9-3.
