In less than sixty days some of the top golfers on the PGA Tour Champions will tee it up for the inaugural Sanford International.
“We are poised to have a spectacular tour event,” Conrad said.
Since the tournament was announced last summer, Minnehaha Country Club has undergone course renovations with much of the focus on its tee boxes.
“The tee’s, when I saw them last all turned out beautiful. Really, really done well. The members are going to appreciate it after it’s over because they’ll have some new tee’s and stuff,” Tournament Host Andy North said.
While the work on the course itself is finished, there’s still plenty to be done, including completing the clubhouse construction, and finding space for the hospitality tents and grandstands.
“We need a little bit more room, so we’re just trying to figure out how to squeeze a couple extra structures in and around some of the holes out here so we can give the fans out here a little better view,” Tournament Director Greg Conrad said.
With the likes of John Daly and Mark Calcavecchia announcing their commitments to the tournament this week, the excitement for the Sanford International continues to grow among both fans and players.
“They’re ready to go. They’re ready to get here, they’re excited. They’ve never been here before so they’re going to come in early, they’re going to play the golf course. They’re really excited about the crowds. They’ve heard a lot of about the number of people that are coming to the event,” Conrad said.
While the finishing touches are being completed, North feels confident the Sanford International will be a hit.
“I think for a first time event I think things are going, knock on wood that nothing crazy happens, but I think everything has gone really well. Now it’s just a matter of let’s have a good week of weather, lots of people show up and have fun,” Tournament Host Andy North said.
