Former NBA number one overall pick Kenyon Martin will be the featured speaker during the Sanford Pentagon/KELOLAND Media Group All-Star Weekend, which is set for March 30th and 31st.
Martin was selected number one overall by the New Jersey Nets in 2000, and averaged more than 12 points and nearly seven rebounds per game during his NBA career. He also finished runner-up to Mitchell native Mike Miller in NBA Rookie of the Year balloting during the 2000-2001 season.
“He was the number one draft pick in his class. He played 15 years in the NBA, was national college player of the year, so he’s seen it all, done it all, and we hope that he’s able to share that message with the athletes that are in attendance,” Sanford Sports Complex Director of Operations Jesse Smith said.
Smith is confident that Martin’s message will extend beyond the basketball court.
“He’s done some things outside of basketball that are also interesting and would resonate with this group about being more than just a basketball player. Through his foundation, some of the charities that he’s supported, some of the causes he’s supported, we think will really create a strong message for this group,” Smith said.
The All-Star Awards Ceremony is set for Saturday, March 30th at the Sanford Pentagon, and admission is free.
