The Sioux Falls Storm (11-2) were stunned by the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (10-3) in week 15 of the of the 2017 IFL regular season at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center by a score of 36-21, snapping the Storm’s 68 home game win streak.
The Wichita Falls Nighthawks would be the first to get on the board after a successful 56-yard field goal by Rockne Belmonte, giving the Nighthawks an early 3-0 lead. Sioux Falls would answer back with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Lorenzo Brown to Korey Williams, giving the Storm it’s first and only lead of the night. The Sioux Falls Storm led 3-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was dominated by the Nighthawks after scoring on three consecutive drives. First, a four-yard rushing touchdown by Tyler Williams then Charles McCullum connected with Demarius Washington for a two-yard touchdown and then Rockne Belmonte hit a 29-yard field goal. Giving the Nighthawks a 20-7 lead at the end of the half.
The Nighthawks started the third quarter with a one-yard pass from Charles McCullum to Troy Evans to extend their lead to 27-7. Sioux Falls would end the third quarter after Robbie Rouse reeled in an 11-yard touchdown reception from Lorenzo Brown cutting the lead to 27-14.
The Nighthawks would start the fourth quarter with a successful Rockne Belmonte 20-yard field, extending their lead to 30-14. Shortly after, Lorenzo Brown would find Eric Shufford for a eight-yard touchdown to bring the score to 30-21. But Charles McCullum powered in a one-yard rushing touchdown, ending the game with a score of 36-21.
Quarterback Lorenzo Brown threw 12 of 26 for 158 yards for three touchdowns and one interception, he also rushed 11 times for 18 yards. Receivers Korey Williams tallied four grabs for 57 yards and one touchdown, while Eric Shufford caught two passes for 28 yards and one touchdown. Robbie Rouse had three receptions for 26 yards and one touchdown. Elijah Fields had 11 total tackles for the Storm. Matt Hermanson and Korey Williams each had one interception.
The Sioux Falls Storm travels to face the Colorado Crush on Saturday, June 3rd for a 6:00pm kickoff.
