CFB: Final Preparations Set For “Key To City” Match-Up

Sports

Sioux Falls and Augustana have put in their final preparations for Saturday’s “Key to City” college football game.

The sixth annual “Key to City” game has much different implications for the cross-town rivals.

Augustana fell to 3-4 on the year after a one point loss to Upper Iowa last week.

“This week going into it it’s probably a great time for us, you come off of a loss that you don’t think you should’ve had but you had to go through it, great time to pick it back up, get refocused against a good ball club,” Augustana head coach Jerry Olszewski said.

USF is 7-1 this season and currently third overall in the NSIC.

“We’ve got a lot of things that are still out in-front of us that we can accomplish but we’ve got to take care of each week at hand,” head coach Jon Anderson said.

Saturday, on the turf at Bob Young Field, will be USF head coach Jon Anderson’s first “Key to City” game with the Cougars.

“This week is special, it’s a rivalry week for us and a lot of fun with a little extra energy out here with these guys and it’s going to be a fun week,” Anderson said.

The Cougars lead the “Key to City” series 4-1 and will go for their second straight series win.

“First of all it starts with ball security making sure that we take good care of the football and create turnovers on the other side and then play great defense and field position, that’s been a recipe for success for us all season long,” Anderson said.

As for Augustana, head coach Jerry Olszewski says his team will have to get a good start defensively.

“We have to make sure that we’re sound in what we do, take away what they want to do then play four quarters of sound football. Secondly, it goes offensively, we have to flip the field, make sure that we create scoring opportunities and then finish drives in the redzone,” Olszewski said.

Although it’s just another football game, both teams know this one means a little more.

“It”s special, it’s a special deal and for both teams it’s a special game,” Olszewski said.

Kickoff is set for 12:05 Saturday at Bob Young Field.
