Sioux Falls, SD – In what had been a tightly contested game through three quarters, the Reno Bighorns (16-26) ran away from the Sioux Falls Skyforce (26-19) in the final period to earn a 134-115 victory.
The Bighorns led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter before Sioux Falls made it a six-point game heading into the second period. For the next two quarters, it was a back-and-forth affair as the Skyforce took a 74-71 lead into the halftime break following a Jabril Trawick (12 points, four rebounds and four assists) three-pointer to close out the half.
Reno was able to pull away toward the end of the third quarter, taking an eight-point lead into the fourth before outscoring Sioux Falls 33-22 over the last 12 minutes, leading by as many as 24 points, to close out the victory.
Reggie Hearn (30 points and eight rebounds) and Will Davis (30 points and eight rebounds) led the way throughout the night for the Bighorns, pitching in nearly identical efforts as they each had 15 of their 30 points at halftime.
Isaiah Cousins scored 28 points and tallied another eight rebounds for Reno, while Kendall Marshall (20 points and 10 assists) and Luis Montero (11 points and 10 rebounds) pitched in the games’ only two double-doubles.
Sioux Falls saw eight players score in double figures in the loss, led by 17 points apiece from Bubu Palo and Patrick Miller. Keith Benson scored 14 points and collected four rebounds in just 16 minutes of playing time, while Greg Whittington (12 points, five rebounds and four assists) and Ike Nwamu (13 points and seven rebounds) rounded out the scoring for Sioux Falls’ starting five.
Jabril Trawick, Larry Drew II, and Kadeem Jack each scored 12 points off the bench in one of the best-rounded scoring efforts of the season by the Skyforce. Sioux Falls scored 41 fast break points to Reno’s 23, but the Bighorns shot 58.7 percent from the field, making 54 of 92 shot attempts to run away with the victory down the stretch.
The Skyforce will stay at home to face the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Saturday, March 18 at 7:00 PM in what will be their third annual SD Corn Association Game, wrapping up a week of food donations and jersey auctions in an effort to provide meals for struggling families in the surrounding community.
