Aberdeen Freshman Stepping Up For SDSU

Sports

It’s take a true team effort to reach the Sweet 16. SDSU will lean on its seniors in tonight’s game against Oregon, but needs players like freshman Paiton Burckhard, who’s 9-of-10 from the field in two tournament games, to play well.

“She made shots. She doesn’t take shots she’s not supposed to or tough ones, she takes the ones that are great shots and makes them,” SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston said. “She’s defending a position where she’s a little bit undersized, she plays a five for us, but she’s rebounding really well and handling that part of it, so her composure has been exceptional.  If you get to know Paiton, you’d expect that because she’s just such a level headed, calm, comfortable person away from basketball, I think that really translates on the court.”

Burckhard and company clash with the seventh-ranked Ducks tonight at the Moda Center. Tip-off is set for 10 p.m. CDT.

We’ll have a live blog during the game, and complete highlights and reaction on Saturday.
