Innovation Worth Celebrating

By: Advertiser Vance Thompson

Since cataract correcting procedures have been one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the United States, Vance Thompson Vision knows the importance of making sure we are pioneering the latest treatments to provide our patients with the best possible results. We are so dedicated to the success of your vision correcting surgery that our doctors are always actively engaging in research and FDA monitored trials for innovative techniques, such as the RxSight’s Light Adjustable Lens.

This light adjustable lens (LAL), which has been in development for over a decade, is making its way to the United States for approval. The Intraocular Lens (IOL), or a lens implanted in the eye as part of a treatment for cataracts, aims to offer a desired refractive result by allowing surgeons to manipulate the refractive qualities after implantation. Never in the industry has it been possible to fine tune vision to the patient’s desired results after the procedure without an additional surgery. This lens allows for that fine tuning in a noninvasive fashion after implantation.

Our team was involved in their clinical trial about seven years ago, and we were part of 20 sites in their clinical trial for the LAL to treat subjects during cataract surgery. The team was able to perform surgery on the patient, and then, go back and correct any residual amount of astigmatism after the cornea was healed. This helped the visual outcome after surgery. Instead of having to do a laser fine tune about three weeks post surgery, the lens was locked in for their life. Even more importantly, the patient was also actively engaged in the process to realize their lifestyle vision expectations.

The patients that were involved had amazing visual outcomes. As soon as the LAL continually proves its safety and success, our team will look further into offering this potentially groundbreaking treatment. For now, know that Vance Thompson Vision is still the leader of cataract correction surgery.  We offer monofocal and multifocal surgery with upfront testing to make sure your goal focal points are hitting the right distance. Beyond catering to each patient’s vision, we also offer programs such as Drop A Day, which make it easier for patients to stay compliant on their eye drops for recovery time.

Since our beginning, Dr. Thompson has been a part of groundbreaking FDA monitored trials and has passed the passion for innovation down to the rest of the Vance Thompson Vision team. We promise to continually bring that passion to improve the quality of eye care offered, because we know life is worth seeing.
