This month one of the largest single races in South Dakota will take place in Sioux Falls.
More than 1,100 people have already signed up for half-marathon Sioux Falls Skedaddle.
“I love a good half-marathon in the spring,” Runner Jeri Light said.
Light is training for the new race.
“My friends and I are really excited to cap off our winter training because it was such a rough winter. It’s nice to have a fun celebration together,” Light said.
That celebration happens April 28 in downtown Sioux Falls, near one of the businesses behind the event, 605 Running Company.
“Sioux Falls needed another half-marathon in our opinion. We listen to our customers. We’re a very community-focused business,” 605 Running Company Co-owner Greg Koch said.
That sense of community can help win the race for a business as more people shop online.
“Experience is everything in retail. Being able to offer experiences you can’t find online is really, really important to us. Putting on races is part of that,” Koch said.
In addition to 605, other nearby businesses are also getting in on the fun through a downtown stroll. They’re offering everything from deals to Skedaddle-themed beer and coffee.
“It’s really a win-win for everyone involved,” Koch said.
A win that will likely have Light hitting her stride while lacing up a new pair of shoes.
“Anytime I train for a race I reward myself at some point along the way,” Light said.
A reward just in time for a new race.
If you’re interested in running, it costs around $90 to enter and comes with a free brunch, drink and shirt.
