From hotels to restaurants, we’ve heard about a lot of new businesses coming to one area of Sioux Falls.
This time we’re not talking about downtown or Lake Lorraine, but eastern Sioux Falls, near Dawley Farm Village. That’s because you’ll soon be able to get to the area more easily from Interstate 90.
Perkins Restaurant & Bakery is known for its desserts, and for the past decade, a franchisee has been looking in Sioux Falls for a sweet spot.
“We feel like Sioux Falls was a no-brainer,” Perkins franchisee Nick Rahfaldt said.
Rahfaldt and his family landed on a location in eastern Sioux Falls. The Perkins near the intersection of Arrowhead Parkway and Highway 11 opened last week.
“There’s a lot of growth on this end,” Rahfaldt said.
One of the big draws of the Perkins location is that it’s right next to a highway that will soon connect to Interstate 90.
“It’ll be easier to get from Interstate 90 down to Arrowhead Parkway. That’s going to be another major attraction for development,” Sioux Falls City Planner Mike Cooper said.
Highway 11 is expected to connect to the interstate in about two years. In addition to Perkins, KELOLAND News has already heard about other businesses coming here partly because of the new interchange. That includes one of the first hotels in eastern Sioux Falls, GLō.
“We’re starting to hear about more people talk about development along that north-south corridor,” Cooper said.
Development driven by new road projects.
“This is kind of the gateway into Sioux Falls on the east side,” Rahfaldt said.
Cooper believes the Arrowhead Parkway renovation will also draw more businesses to the area.
Crews have been working on that road for a couple of years and hope to be done next spring.
