There are new questions about the future of Younkers and Herberger’s.
The stores’ websites have a message saying that they’re coming back, and they’ll have more details in the coming weeks.
All of the stores closed earlier this week after their parent company, Bon Ton, was purchased by liquidators in a bankruptcy auction.
Great American Group, which is leading the liquidation, says the company’s intellectual property is in the process of being sold.
Even though the mall will soon have two big openings with the closing of Younkers and Sears, mall officials are optimistic.
“The retail landscape is always evolving and changing, which allows us to bring in new, relevant, and fresh shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Some new developments include Roam Kitchen + Bar, inside The District, which is slated to open in early 2019, and Scandinavian Designs will also soon join our roster of standout retailers. Guests can also shop our latest local tenant, Juniper Bath and Body, and the newly opened fast-fashion retailer Forever 21 which opened earlier this month. Additionally, lululemon is poised to move to their newly renovated, and permanent, space mid-September. The Empire Mall has many exciting projects in the pipeline so stay tuned for new announcements,” Empire Mall Director of Marketing Kirsten Schaffer said.
