Perhaps you’ve already exchanged Christmas gifts with family or friends, but a KELOLAND law office hopes you’re still in the spirit of giving.

Swier Law Firm is holding its first Bare Necessities Angel Tree, which is a money and supplies drive for the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

It’s not your typical Christmas tree.

“The angel of the tree is a durable dog toy,” Attorney Rebekkah Steinwand said.

However, these are the ideal ornaments and presents if you ask Steinwand.

From pet carriers to cleaning supplies, the Swier Law Firm office is filling up with donations for the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

The law office launched the Bare Necessities Angel Tree just before Thanksgiving.

Steinwand is calling on community members to open their hearts to the animals living at the shelter.

Her inspiration comes from a faithful friend near and dear to her heart.

“I never thought I’d be a small dog lover, but I got him on a whim and he helped me get through law school, hands down. He had so much personality,” Steinwand said.

Steinwand said goodbye to Bear this year.

“I lost him and we lost another family dog too so I thought what better way to honor my furry little family member than to donate and help the ones that are less fortunate and still with us,” Steinwand said.

It’s giving others the chance to pay tribute to their own four-legged family members that have passed away.

“People will write on the bags of food, ‘this if for my dog so and so’ or ‘in honor of Bear because he liked to play fetch.’ It’s a great way to honor those that are lost or still here,” Steinwand said.

While it’s not your typical Christmas tree, it bares a special meaning for this woman honoring a family member.

The donation drive runs until January 13th.

If you’d like to donate, you can drop off any item that is on the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society’s wish list to any Swier Law Firm in South Dakota. A GoFundMe account has also been set up to raise money for the shelter.
