It’s easy to complain about the winter weather here in KELOLAND.
But lately, some have been embracing it at the Sioux Falls Winter Carnival.
The Winter Carnival enters its ninth day Saturday with a full slate of events including Family Snowfest and a concert, which is why organizers were busy Friday setting up.
“Today, we’re definitely feeling winter,” The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire Marketing Director Lisa Verdin said.
A lot of the action will be happening at 8th and Railroad.
Remedy Brewing Company is playing a role in the event, even brewing a special beer for the occasion.
“Just seeing the tents out in the parking lot is drawing a lot of attention, which is exciting because there’s so much planning that has gone into this event so we’re just happy it’s right in our front yard,” Remedy Brewing Company Marketing Director Kelcey Schroeder said.
The big concert on Saturday will be held in a tent, but don’t worry, organizers say it will be heated.
But you should still bundle up.
Denham and the Brickhouse Boys will play live karaoke music earlier in the day.
“Any time you can get people out and about, especially in the winter time, I think it’s great,” Musician Denham McDermott said.
The winter carnival benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire, which is why organizers hope you’ll embrace the cause and the cold.
“St. Paul does a great winter carnival. Fargo has Frostival, and certainly Sioux Falls is ready for this so we want everyone to come out here, join us, embrace winter for just little bit and just have a lot of fun,” Verdin said.
Organizers are suggesting a $10 free will donation for the concert, which is headlined by The Spill Canvas.
Because of the weather and a shipping delay, the days the ice rink will be open have been extended.
The Boutique & Shop Crawl has also been re-scheduled because of the cold weather on Thursday.
