Warm Weather Could Make A Busy Downtown Shopping Weekend

Have you finished your holiday shopping? Christmas is only about a week and a half away! With sunny skies and warm air, local stores are bracing to get bombarded.

Just a few weeks before Christmas and the warm temperatures are creating a perfect storm for downtown shops.

“It’s not quite last minute yet, so we still have a good selection left and you don’t have to be bundled up and worry about freezing to death down here,” said Kathryn Macziewski, owner of A League of Your Own.

At A League of Your Own, shoppers will also get a special treat this weekend with popcorn while you browse. For local shoppers, these small touches separate downtown from the big box stores.

“This is where you see the real unique restaurants. The really unique shops that are hometown businesses that are a little more variety, a little more fun to patronize,” said Gary Thimsen, Sioux Falls resident.

The sunny skies are also drawing people out of their cars to take in the sights.

Elliot Viker was traveling to North Dakota from Kansas City Friday and couldn’t resist a quick stop to stroll downtown.

“Stretch the legs, shop. Enjoy the downtown shopping stores. Get away from the department stores and enjoy a little bit of the sun,” said Viker.

Something a lot more people will be doing this weekend.

Several downtown shops are having sales this weekend, and leading up to Christmas.
