Two Inmates Escape From Minnehaha County Community Correction Center

News

Two inmates escaped from the Minnehaha County Community Correction Center at 1900 W. Russell St. early Wednesday morning.

William Calkins and Roy Hampton are “minimum security inmates.”

Calkins is being charged with burglary and intentional damage to property, while Hampton is charged with possession of controlled drug and distribution/manufacture of a controlled drug.

Jail Warden Jeff Gromer said an investigation on how Calkins and Hampton escaped is ongoing.

“We’ve got to follow up and start reviewing a lot of video, interviewing a lot of other inmates, seeing what kind of correspondents we can find that they’ve had whether it’s through phone calls or with people outside the facility. So all that stuff kind of takes time,” Gromer said.

Anyone with information on Calkins and Hampton are asked to contact the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office at 605-367-4300 or by calling 911.

Police say if you see either inmate don’t approach them. Immediately call 911.
