If you feel like hopping on the Sioux Falls Bike Trail this weekend, there’s a Trail Challenge raising money for improvements.
The Falls Area Bicyclists are raising money for more trails in Sioux Falls. But they aren’t your typical paved trails. The hope is to bring more hiking and mountain biking trails in Tuthill Park to take you through a more scenic route.
“Personally like to say the trails and the trees. Where you got your little trail in the trees, it’s nice for hiking, biking,” said Jodi Erickson.
Quite opposite of the view Erickson is used to.
Single-track trails, which aren’t paved, are the next improvement bicyclists are hoping for.
“It’s just going to be a huge addition to that area,” Erickson said.
Erickson, who’s a part of Falls Area Bicyclists, along with local supporters including Two Wheeler Dealer are raising money for the project with this weekend’s Trail Challenge.
The challenge will support Falls Area Singletrack, better known as FAST, the group building these unpaved trails by hand.
“A fun little 10 to 20 mile thing you can do with your kids, there’s a passport and tons of stops with area businesses and local clubs,” Two Wheeler Dealer’s Christie Kennelly said.
For a $15 donation and a ride around the bike trail, you can push the group one pedal closer.
“So we just wanted as Falls Area Bicyclists to get the word out to help them. This is a great assett to our community,” Erickson said.
To having more trails — with a different view — to try.
“And that’s what I think all of us push for: are more people on bikes, healthier lifestyles,” Kennelly said.
Families are encouraged to participate this weekend. There will be a shuttle at the halfway point, 10 miles, if you need a ride.
Sponsors will be at several checkpoints along the trail system for free giveaways.
