The Molded Fiber Glass plant in Aberdeen will stay open longer than expected.

The company announced Thursday that it received a substantial new order for wind turbine blades.  That means it will keep its Aberdeen facility running into the third quarter of next year.  Originally the plant was slated to close February 15, 2018.

About 400 people work there.

“It keeps those jobs around not forever, but hopefully through the next year. Then we’ll see where we go from there whether we find a path forward with wind or maybe there’s another solution there. We’ll work with the state and the city of Aberdeen,” Senator John Thune said.

The company says the new wind blade order that’s keeping them in business is thanks to the Production Tax Credit in the tax reform bill that just passed.
