Sunday Boredom Busters, August 6th


It’s day three of the Sioux Empire Fair at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.  Today’s hours are from 10 a.m. to midnight.  The fair includes carnival rides, free entertainment, exhibits, livestock shows and of course, fair food.   The grandstand entertainment is Hairball with Pop Rocks at 8 p.m.   Fair admission is $7 for adults, $2 for children and free for kids 5 and under.  The fair runs through August 13.  

The Sioux River Folk Festival wraps up today at Newton Hills State Park near Canton, SD.  Performers include Melanie Devaney at 11 a.m., The Teels with Dalton Coffee at noon and Tree Party at 1 p.m. 

All active duty military members, veterans and their families are invited to Springdale Lutheran Church, southeast of Sioux Falls for a free meal of hot dogs, chips and cookies from 4-6 p.m.  There will also be games, inflatables and music.  Springdale Lutheran is located 2-miles east of 69th Street and Highway 11 and then a half-mile south on 480th Avenue.  

Pack a picnic lunch, enjoy South Dakota wines and live music during Sangria Sunday at Strawbale Winery in Renner, SD.  The hours are from 1-4 p.m.  Admission is $5 carload. 

The Sioux Falls Municipal Band wraps up its free summer concert series at Terrace Park.  The Grand Finale performance is at 8 p.m.  

It’s Bark in the Park Day at Sioux Falls Stadium.  For an admission of $5, you can bring your dog to today’s Canaries baseball game against The Texas Airhogs.  First pitch is at 4:05 p.m.  

Films playing at the Wells Fargo CineDome at the Washington Pavilion include Cars 3, Dream Big: Engineering Our World: An IMAX Experience, Journey to Space and Wild Africa.

New Hollywood releases playing at a theater near you include The Dark Tower, rated PG-13, plus Detroit and Kidnap, both rated R.
