South Dakota Salutes Event Raising Money For Scholarships

News

We’ve seen law enforcement around the nation facing protest and violence, like in the case of the Dallas police shootings.

Here in South Dakota, an event is underway to help the families of officers or military personnel who have died in action protecting others.

The South Dakota Salutes Event has 200 participants from law enforcement, fire and rescue, and military members taking part in shooting competitions.  Organizers had a goal to raise money to pay for the event and have some left over for scholarships for the education of family members of fallen officers.

“The businesses, the sponsors that we’ve asked, no one has said no to helping.  It’s just, ‘Yes, tell me how I can help and I’ll help,'” South Dakota Salutes Paul Muth said.

South Dakota Salutes says it’s raised $45,000 for scholarships.

The shooting event continues in Humboldt on Tuesday.
