South Dakota Fire Crews Aid In Wildfire Efforts

Wildfire season is off to a strong start in the western part of the United States. More than a dozen fire are burning in five states, with the largest in southern Colorado and New Mexico.

Crews from KELOLAND are already answering the call for help. On Saturday the Interior Fire Department tweeted that a crew from its department was heading to New Mexico with three other crews from the Piedmont, Battle Creek, and Spearfish Fire Departments

There is no word on exactly where the crews will be stationed. However, the Ute Park Fire in northern New Mexico is a main focus of resources at the present. Since Thursday, more than 30,000 acres have burned in that fire.
