One local man will soon have a lot of reasons to smile.
KELOLAND’s Whitney Fowkes introduces us to the latest Second Chance Program recipient.
Siouxland Oral Surgery is giving away a free mouth makeover. The recipient is Connor Vortherms.
“There are no words to express how thankful I am and how overwhelmingly amazed I am by the staff here and the doctors because they change people’s lives every single day,” Connor Vortherms said.
Connor’s father passed away when he was 11 and just two years later his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Connor has also developed some health issues of his own that caused problems for his teeth.
“I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain, oral pain, from the state of my teeth. Haven’t been able to really be myself for many years now around other people. Hard to express myself,” Connor Vortherms said.
Dr. Louis George hopes to relieve that pain and help Connor feel better with his new smile.
“The goal is not just to address, say one problem, say one tooth, or one area, but something that is going to make an overall huge impact on an individual, their future, their confidence, and their way of life, at least, in terms of oral care,” Louis George said.
Unbeknownst to Connor, a friend reached out during the application process as to why Connor should be selected.
“A close friend of his wrote us a heartfelt three page letter. Asking us to strongly consider him due to all the sacrifices he has made for others and how influential he’s been in helping different people in their times of need,” Louis George said.
Just as Connor has opened up his heart to others, Siouxland Oral Surgery is is giving him new opportunities to smile.
Siouxland Oral Surgery says it plans to give out an oral makeover every other year.
