Sioux Steel To Move Manufacturing Operations

The downtown landscape of Sioux Falls will be changing.

Sioux Steel has been located near Falls Park for a century. Now the manufacturer says it’s moving and plans to redevelop its 11 acres.

Around 100 people work at the Sioux Falls Steel location.

There’s been a lot of development nearby with dozens of new condos and businesses now calling the area home.

Because of that, CEO Scott Rysdon says he feels that there’s a better use for the land than manufacturing.

The company will rezone the land into a public utilities district. Rysdon says this will allow for mixed-use, which could include restaurants, offices, retail, hotels and housing.

Rysdon says the company would like input from the public, and he plans to open the plan up for public comment.

So far there is no timeline for the project, but it will likely be done in phases.
