A single mom of four is driving a brand new Jeep this week thanks to a special event at The Barrel House. SuAnne Knutson bought a raffle ticket at the Hungry Hearts fundraiser for school lunches this weekend.
About an hour before the drawing for a brand new Jeep, SuAnne Knutson decided to throw her name in the box.
“I said I am going to buy a ticket and I am going to win that Jeep,” Knutson said.
The vehicle, worth $29,000, was being raffled off at $50 a ticket to benefit kids in the Sioux Falls School District who can’t afford school lunches.
Knutson had been donating her Saturday as a volunteer at the Hungry Hearts event. When it came time to draw a winner, her prediction came true.
“And I first heard Su… I’m like keep going, keep going. Then I heard the rest of my name. Then I just froze. I stood there. I didn’t even know what to do. I’ve never won anything,” Knutson said.
The single mom of four, including her son Jack with special needs, was in great need of a new car. Now, she’s grateful for her family’s new ride.
“And they said, ‘Go up there!’ So then I walked up there. It was unbelievable. I think I was in shock for two days,” Knutson said.
Knutson picked up the Jeep on Monday and says her son Jack approves of the new wheels.
“He loves the Jeep. He was in there pushing all the buttons trying to figure out all the gadgets. Seeing what everything did. He thought it was pretty impressive,” Knutson said.
An impressive win on a day that raises tens of thousands of dollars for kids in need.
“Not only did we raise quite a bit of money and it was for a good cause, I won the Jeep,” Knutson said.
The Barrel House is still counting all the donations from this weekend. We’ll bring you the final tally as soon as it’s available. The goal was to raise $100,000 to give to the Sioux Falls School District.
