A Sioux Falls man is behind bars, accused of hurting a one-year-old boy and strangling the child’s mother until she was unconscious.
The woman told police that 24-year-old David Connell had been drinking before they got into an argument. He’s accused of pushing her to the ground, biting her in the face and strangling her until she was unconscious. When she woke up, the toddler, who had been in a crib, was crying on the floor. The adults started fighting again and Connell is accused of strangling her until she was unconscious again.
Police say it happened Friday night, but authorities weren’t notified until Tuesday afternoon. Grandparents were watching the boy Tuesday when they noticed he was holding his arm differently and wasn’t using it. They took him to a clinic and doctors found he had a broken arm.
After talking with the boy’s mother, police arrested Connell at his home. Connell is in the Minnehaha County Jail, accused of assault. He’s scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
