Undefeated and looking for more wins.  That’s the focus of the Sioux Falls’ Little League team.  They are getting ready for the Little League World Series this Friday when they take on North Carolina in the first round.

The boys arrived in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Sunday night and according to their coach, they’ve been busy.

Sioux Falls’ Little League team continues to impress baseball fans after beating Missouri this weekend 6-0, the same team they struggled with earlier in the week.

We talked with head coach Jeff Riley via Facetime as the team was just getting ready to take the field for its first practice.

“We got here last night about 6:30 p.m. and went straight to the equipment room to get all the free garb for the kids, the lunch hall, uniforms.  It’s been a very busy time,” Riley said.

Despite being busy, Riley says the boys are focused, but admits it’s a little overwhelming.

“To come in and look at the pristine fields out here and knowing you’re in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, it’s just a really big deal.  It feels great right now,” Riley said.

Riley hopes that excitement will carry over onto the field come Friday, when the boys try to do something no other South Dakota team has ever done.

“One play at a time, one pitch at a time.  That’s what we’ve been going with.  The reality is there’s never been a South Dakota team that’s won a game against U.S. competition here in Williamsport,” Riley said.

To do that, Riley says the team needs to get hits.

“I think our pitching is going to be there; rock solid the whole time.  We really need to get ready for the fastball.  The farther we go here, the faster the pitches get.  If we’re not ready for it, we’ll have a tough time,” Riley said.

Again Sioux Falls takes on North Carolina Friday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN.  If you can’t watch, we’ll have all the highlights for you on the 10 p.m. news.
