Search crews continued the search to find a missing man near Eagle Butte.
The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe said Friday that 29-year-old Tom Traversie, Jr., of White Horse, hasn’t been seen in nearly a week. He and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Megan High Bear, of Eagle Butte, went missing on Monday. Later that day, High Bear’s body was recovered.
Saturday officials used search dogs and metal detectors. They’re hoping for warmer weather moving forward so the search dogs can work longer days. The search will be called off at sun down on Saturday.
Searchers are focused on a remote area. It’s about 5 square miles with lots of gullies, deep snow drifts and limited access. As we reported Friday, dangerously cold temperatures are limiting how much time searchers can spend outside. In the past, they’ve have to travel to a church to warm up. Now that more equipment is being brought in and more roads are being cleared, organizers hope to bring in trucks with heaters.
