SD Hall Of Fame Grows With New Inductees

The South Dakota Hall of Fame has a new batch of inductees! Wednesday, a ceremony was held to honor the new members.

“These are people who have done very, very well for us in the state of South Dakota,” said Richard Gowen, Chair of South Dakota Hall of Fame.

For 41 years, the South Dakota Hall of Fame has been honoring those who bring out the best in the state. More than 700 people have been inducted, with 10 new ones joining the batch each year. And they come from all over.

“It’s championing the culture of excellence for South Dakota. Not for Sioux Falls, or Rapid City, or in between. It’s for everyone,” said Gowen.

The members also represent a wide range of careers. This year’s inductees include people from education, agriculture, political backgrounds and more.

Hall of Fame Chair, Richard Gowen, says it’s necessary to honor those who are making a difference in the community, but they need your help to find these people.

“There are many, many people in our state who are doing exceptionally important things for the culture of excellence. To really champion, they do it day by day. But to be recognized, some of us have to step forward and say, ‘That’s an act of excellence. That person should be nominated. I’m going to nominate them’,” said Gowen.

If you know someone who you would like to nominate for next year, just go to the SD Hall of Fame website.

A ceremony to honor the Hall of Fame will be held in Chamberlain on September 8th and 9th.
