Saturday Boredom Busters, September 16th


More than 60 new homes are on display as part of the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire’s Fall Parade of Homes.  The parade runs this weekend and next weekend from 1-5 p.m.  The homes are located in Sioux Falls, Brandon and Tea.  All homes are free to tour.

The Sioux Falls Firefighters Association is hosting a memorial stair climb, Step Up for Heroes.  Firefighters, law enforcement and military members will meet at Howard Wood Field to climb 110 flights of stairs to honor the lives lost in the World Trade Center attacks on Nine-Eleven.  The event also includes a Step Up for Heroes Challenge Course to test athletes’ endurance.  Registration is at 8 a.m.  Opening ceremonies are at 9 a.m.  The stair climb and challenge begin at 9:30 a.m.  

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a 1.5 mile walk to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease.  Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Eight & Railroad Center in Sioux Falls.  The walk begins at 10 a.m. 

Experience the magic of a water circus during Cirque Italia at The Empire Mall. Today’s shows are at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the mall parking lot near JC Penney and TJ Maxx.

Runners of all skill levels are invited to take part in the Good Earth Trail Race at Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, southeast of Sioux Falls.  The event, hosted by the Sioux Falls Area Running Club, goes from 8-10 a.m. and includes a three mile and 5.5 mile course.  Registration is $25, $20 for club members.  A park entrance is also required.

The Sioux Valley Cycle Club is hosting ATV and motorcycle races in Scotland, SD. The races go from 3-10 p.m. at the Lone Tree Creek Race Park. 

Vendors are selling fresh produce, meat, baked goods and flowers at the Falls Park Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The farmers market is open every Saturday through October.

Enjoy live music, food and beer during FernsonFest at the Fernson Brewing Company in Sioux Falls.  Fersonfest goes from 1-11 p.m.  The first 1,000 people will receive free commemorative drink-ware.  Admission is $15, free for kids 12 and under.  Fernson Brewing Company is located at 1400 E. Robur, Drive, near Interstate 90 and Cliff Avenue.

The Soul’d Out Quartet presents a Southern Gospel concert at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, Iowa.  The performance is at 7 p.m.  

Enjoy the sounds of big band music during the Party Like It’s 1945 Hangar Dance. Period dress is optional.  The dance starts at 7 p.m. at the Maverick Air Center Hangar on the north end of Sioux Falls Regional Airport.  Tickets are $15.
