Customers are urged to shop small this holiday season. Downtown Sioux Falls shops and restaurants are open today for Small Business Saturday. Participating stores will be offering specials and you can take a selfie with Santa, who will be visiting businesses from noon to 4 p.m.
Put on your favorite holiday costume and take part in the Jingle Bell Run, a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation of South Dakota. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at Woodgrain Brewing Company, located at 101 S. Phillips Avenue. The run begins at 10 a.m. at Fawick Park in downtown Sioux Falls. A 1.5-mile walk begins at 10:15.
Check out the elaborate holiday light display during Christmas at the Western Mall in Sioux Falls. The lights and music go from 5:30 to 9:30 each night through New Year’s Day. Be sure to place a donation in one of the drop boxes for Make-A-Wish South Dakota.
Christmas at the Capitol presents An Enchanted Christmas. Nearly 90 decorated trees are on display at the South Dakota Capitol in Pierre. The display is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through December 25.
First Reformed Church is hosting a Kids Christmas Celebration from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Activities include pictures with Santa Claus, crafts, cookie decorating and a living nativity. First Reformed Church is located at 4800 S. Tomar Road in Sioux Falls.
Falls Park is all decked-out for the holidays. Winter Wonderland features 270 decorated trees, 275 decorated light poles and more than 20-miles of light strings. The park is light up nightly from 6 to midnight through January 6. Admission is free.
The Washington Pavilion features two performances of Elf The Musical. Show times are 2 and 7:30 p.m. For tickets, contact the Pavilion Box Office.
Enjoy story time and an animal encounter during the Bookworms Reading Program at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls. The program starts at 1 p.m. in the KELOLAND Education Center. The cost is a zoo admission.
The Skyforce basketball team takes on the South Bay Lakers at the Sanford Pentagon. Tipoff is at 7:05 p.m. Tickets start at $7.
The Stampede hockey team takes on the Dubuque Fighting Saints at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at the KELOLAND Box Office.
