Saturday Boredom Busters, November 11th


The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Military & Veterans Affairs Committee and local veterans groups are hosting a Veterans Program today.  The free program takes place at Washington High School at 10:30 a.m.   The ceremony includes a presentation of flags, a performance by the Singing Legionnaires and a keynote address by retired Brigadier General Myrna H. Williamson.  People attending the program are encouraged to park in the school’s west parking lot and use the west entrance of the building. 

VFW Post 628 in Sioux Falls is serving a Veterans Day Dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The cost is $15.  The prime rib dinner includes music by the El Riad Shrine Big Band.  The VFW is located at 3601 S. Minnesota Avenue. 

Veterans who have served overseas can enjoy a free Veterans Day meal at the Khorasan Kabob House in Sioux Falls.  Serving time is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The restaurant is located at 301 S. Garfield Avenue.

The Sioux Empire Arts & Crafts Show features handmade holiday items being sold by more than 200 vendors in the Expo Building of the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.  Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission is $5.

There’s more Christmas shopping at the Holiday Craft Festival at the American Legion Hall in Montrose, SD.  There will be hand-crafted items for sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The festival also includes a bake sale plus a pork sandwich lunch.

The Sioux Empire Community Theatre presents the western drama The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.  The performance is at 7 p.m. in the Orpheum Theater in downtown Sioux Falls.  Tickets are $30.

The Skyforce basketball team takes on the Salt Lake City Stars at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.  Tipoff is at 7:05 p.m.  Tickets start at $8 on up.

Looking ahead to next weekend, the St. Francis House is hosting Walk A Mile In My Shoes to raise awareness about the homeless in Sioux Falls.  The walk will be Saturday, November 18th at the homeless memorial located at 6th Street and the Big Sioux River.  Registration is at 9:30 a.m.  The walk begins at 10 a.m.
