It’s the first full day of the Sioux Empire Fair at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Today’s hours are from 10 a.m. to midnight. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children, free for kids 5 and under. Tonight’s free grandstand entertainment features country artist Scotty McCreery with Chauncey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band. The music starts at 8 p.m.
Outdoor University is your family’s day to try activities ranging from canoeing, fishing, kayaking, outdoor cooking, archery and rock climbing. You can also meet President Teddy Roosevelt. Tuition is free. Outdoor University runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Outdoor Campus at Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls.
The Sioux River Folk Festival is a day of traditional music at Newton Hills State Park near Canton, SD. Activities start at 10 a.m. with workshops. The music goes from noon to 11 p.m. Admission is $25 plus a park entrance license. Children 14 and under are free.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting a Kids Bike Rodeo & Races from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at First Evangelical Free Church. Prizes will be awarded and a free lunch will be served. Each child must be accompanied by a guardian and helmets are required. First Evangelical Free Church is located at 2601 West 69th Street in Sioux Falls.
Fitness First of Tea is hosting an Obstacle Course Fun Run at Tea City Park. Activities begin at 9 a.m. with a group walk around the pond followed by the Obstacle Course Fun Run, plus face-painting and food. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics of South Dakota and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Vendors at the Falls Park Farmer’s Market are selling fresh flowers, bread, local meats and tender greens from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday through October.
