SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A plan to buy dozens of houses in a neighborhood went to the planning commission on Tuesday.

The area around Rose and Lotta Streets in south Sioux Falls experienced major flooding this spring. The city would like to buy 55 properties. It’s a voluntary program, and the city wants to do it because, among other reasons, it says homes just south of Tomar Park will keep facing the threat of flooding.

You may remember the dramatic live coverage of water rescues we brought you from this neighborhood on March 14.

As the plan moves forward, we’re looking to talk with homeowners in the area for their thoughts on the city’s proposal to buy their homes. Look for that story on KELOLAND News at 10.
