Protection against ticks

With warmer temperatures expected for this weekend — you may want to head outside and enjoy the nice weather. But before you do, you’ll want to protect your family against ticks.

The South Dakota Health Department is reminding everyone to keep an eye out for ticks to prevent tick-borne disease.

In 2017 — health officials investigated 13 cases of tularemia and 11 cases of Lyme Disease.

If you notice a tick is attached to you, use tweezers or a tissue to pull it out without crushing it. You should also clean the bite area with soap and water.

To protect yourself and your family, remember to wear repellant with 20 percent DEET.

When you come inside, always remember to check your body and hair for ticks.

Also remove any ticks that may be on your pets.
