A year and a half later, after a high speed chase through country roads in Moody County, the Highway Patrol says it’s still investigating.
The police pursuit ended with three young people sustaining brain injuries. KELOLAND’s Angela Kennecke has been looking into the details, and what, if any, police policies apply to a chase like this one.
Angela Kennecke: I’m investigating a chase by law enforcement of a pickup truck that ended up here on this gravel road just northeast of Flandreau in a horrific crash at the dead end.
“They just pulled them over because they were approaching that party. And they hadn’t been at the party,” Verna Bourassa said.
“To have my daughter injured as the result of a high-speed chase that terminated in a violent accident. … People made choices that day that they should be held accountable for,” Tom Ten Eyck said.
Angela Kennecke: The aftermath of that pursuit and horrific crash has devastated the lives of three young people and their families. I’ll look into their cases and the policies of police pursuits Thursday on KELOLAND News.
