Parents who are going through a crisis and are having a difficult time taking care of their children have a place to go for help.
Safe Families launched in Sioux Falls five years ago.The program connects parents who are going through a difficult time with volunteers who can temporarily take care of their children.
Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken and his wife Jill volunteer their time as host families.
“In the mayor’s office, I see a lot of broken home situations that are caused by a lot of scenarios. What we like about this program is it’s before kids get into the system — the foster care system — and they’re seperated from their family,” TenHaken said.
