SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — More than 300 people with cancer in KELOLAND have been supported by the Feisty Fighters.
The group held its Knickers FORE Knockers golf tournament on Tuesday. The organization has donated nearly $800,000 since it started more than a decade ago.
Kristen Thorkelson is a founder of the organization and several members of her family have been touched by cancer.
“It really touches us. I’m thinking about how to say thank you to everybody who over the past 11 years has continued to show up and continue to give and continue to support us. And it’s really hard to think of anything other to say than thank you and give a lot hugs of course,” Kristen Thorkelson with Feisty Fighters said.
Money from the group helps pay for a variety of things, including important testing.
“It’s actually what paid for my BRCA one positive testing and five out of eight of us that have been tested have been positive so it’s making our entire family be proactive and hopefully nobody else will have to go through what I’m going through,” Amber Like said.
