KELOLAND Media Group is teaming up with the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society for our Pet Food Drive on Friday.

Last year, our viewers brought in 7,800 pounds of dog and cat food. This year, we hope to beat that.

The summertime shortage is sinking in at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

“We go through about 8,000 pounds of food a month,” Special Events Coordinator Allison Wyant said.

Throughout kitten season, more felines come in than out and the dog area is pretty full too.

But soon the shelves will be stocked thanks to you, our generous viewers.

“It’s our tradition, our legacy here at KELOLAND TV to give back to the community and this is one way we can do that for the pet community,” Paul Farmer, Marketing Director at KELO-TV, said.

From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can drop off food at our downtown studios to help shelter dogs like Eliza.

It’s all a part of KELOLAND Media Group’s annual Pet Food Drive.

“You can drive right up, and we’ll come get the pet food and donations right out of your car and you’ll be on your way,” Farmer said.

In addition to pet food, other donations are needed too.

“We take used towels and blankets.  We don’t take sheets or pillow cases, but we do towels and blankets.  Otherwise just simple things like cleaning supplies or hand sanitizer,” Wyant said.

So, help us make a difference one donation at a time.

“On top of just food donations, which is a huge need and something we’re really excited about, to also have all of those supporters in the community as well is huge for us,” Wyant said.

The Humane Society is requesting that all pet food donated is Purina brand. For other items on the wish list, visit the Humane Society’s website.
