Pet Food Drive Collects 4,700 Pounds Of Food

You can measure generosity by the ton in KELOLAND.

People dropped off nearly 4,700 pounds of pet food – that’s almost two-and-a-half tons – in front of our KELOLAND studios Friday.  All that food, along with donations of supplies and cash, will go to help the strays sheltered at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

“We have our own dog at home and there’s a lot of dogs at the shelter that need to have food too, so we brought some out for us today,” pet food donor Kathy Kirchner said.

This year’s food drive surpassed last year’s total by more than a ton. Humane Society workers picked up all the pet food Friday afternoon, with the help of our own volunteers to make the heavy lifting a little easier on everyone.
