One person sustained minor burns after Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a house fire at 1212 S. Western Ave. at 6:19 p.m. on Tuesday in Sioux Falls.
Crews reported moderate smoke within the structure of a residential home and first-in crew entry found moderate heat and smoke but no active fire in the basement. A second crew entered the first floor of the home and found an active fire on that level. The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes and crews remained on scene for several hours performing overhaul operations to ensure the fire had been completely extinguished.
The start of the fire is under investigation.
Five fire trucks, four support vehicles and 25 firefighters responded to the fire. The fifth fire truck was requested due to the high heat indexes at the time of the incident.
No firefighters were injured during the operation and the residents of the home were displaced. The American Red Cross helped arrange lodging for them.
