Officers Investigating Possible Causes Of Motorcycle Crash

Police said Tuesday that investigators are looking into whether a power pole played a role in a truck versus motorcycle crash.

Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said a crash reconstruction team is working to figure out what happened when a motorcycle crashed into 2011 Nissan Frontier pickup at North 4th Avenue and East Maple Street.

The driver of the pickup told police that he did not see the oncoming motorcycle because of a power pole. According to Clemens, its placement on the corner will be part of the crash reconstruction team’s investigation, along with vehicle speeds and other factors that could have caused the crash.

The 49-year-old motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital and is still recovering from life-threatening injuries as of Tuesday morning. He was not wearing a helmet.

On Monday, police said that speed or impaired driving with alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed.
