New Vermillion Pool Now Open

With the start of summer right around the corner many people are excited to break out their swimming suits. In one KELOLAND Community a brand new pool means they can start swimming.

For the last couple of years Vermillion has gone without a pool. But this summer, with a brand new facility, the community will have a place to beat the heat.

“Ten years ago it was established that a new pool needed to be built. It took some time for the idea to build traction but in the last 4 or 5 years it really got the steam,” Parks and Rec director, Jim Goblirsh said.

After years of waiting, community members finally got what they had asked for.

“A group of citizens came forward before the city council and asked that we consider it, they felt a need for this community that it would fit a nice quality of life feature,” Goblirsh said.

With yesterday’s grand opening drawing in over 800 swimmers, many were impressed by the pool’s features.

“Just how colorful it was and how big it was.”

With a big pool comes a big responsibility, more lifeguards were needed to keep this facility safe.

“We did not have a problem this year finding lifeguards and we almost doubled our staff.” Goblirsh said.

Even though it took some time to get it, Goblirsh is happy to see everyone enjoying the water.

“What better thing for a community than a great big pool in the summer time,” Goblirsh said.

The new pool features two slides, a lazy river, a diving board, and a zero entry. Hours of operation and admission prices can be found on the Vermillion Aquatics page.
