New Income Guidelines For WIC Program

More families will qualify for the WIC program under new income guidelines just released by the South Dakota Department of Health.

Starting in June, anyone making less than $22,459 with one child will qualify for WIC. That’s about a $150 increase from previous requirements.

For a family of two, they can’t make more than $30,451. That’s up about $400.

For a family of five, the income guideline is just over $54,000. That’s an increase of about $1,200.

WIC is a special program funded by the Department of Agriculture provided at no cost to eligible moms, babies and children.

It provides nutritious meals to supplement diets and it also offers education on healthy eating, nutrition and breastfeeding.
